How to Find the Right Staffing Partner for You

Posted September 12, 2013

There are hundreds of staffing companies competing for your business. On the plus side, you can be selective. On the minus side, it can be overwhelming to try and choose the right one for your firm. What should you avoid? What should you look for?
AVOID: Firms who don’t ask you any questions.
You don’t want a firm who will just take your job description and promise great employees. You DO want a firm who will meet with you, possibly visit your work site and ask questions—a lot of questions. A good firm knows they need to understand your culture, the key technologies in your job description and the skill level you expect. So they should ask about your technical environment, team size, culture and more.
AVOID: Bargain firms, who promise to find you employees for less.
Sure, we all like a deal. But a well-run, reliable, financially stable staffing company with quality recruiters, well-built partnerships, good community involvement, and a solid benefits offering is most likely not going to be your cheapest option. Look for a firm that’s competitively priced in your market.
When it’s your turn to ask the questions, here are several basics to get you started:
•    Are you a “full service” firm? (a company that provides full-time, contract or contract-to-hire candidates for their clients; this type of vendor gives you more hiring flexibility.)
•    What expertise do you have with recruiting in my industry?
•    Can you provide me with references from other clients?
•    What is your screening process??
•    Do you check candidates’ references?
•    Do you offer benefits and a vacation package to your contractors?
•    When should I expect an update if I work with you?
•    Do you have a customer satisfaction guarantee, and if so, what are the terms?
Choosing a staffing service is an important decision for any company. The success of your business is dependent on the employees who bring their skills, experiences and personalities to the job every day.  By partnering with a staffing service, you’re asking an outsider to handle the all-important task of choosing some of the people who contribute to the dynamic and the pace of the business environment.
